Studio Tuesdays: Decoupage Trinket Dish + Upcycling

For this Studio Tuesday, we'll explore the art of decoupage while transforming a blank trinket dish into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece using decorative papers, paint and metallic finishing details.

This is much more than simply applying a pretty pattern! Colleen will guide you step by step through the process, from preparing and painting your surface to selecting and separating your decorative papers, planning your design, applying and smoothing your pieces, cleaning and finishing the edges, sealing your work and adding those final details that bring everything together.

You'll have a curated selection of prints to choose from, with plenty of freedom to mix, match and create a piece that feels completely your own.

Bring Something to Upcycle!

Because decoupage involves several layers and drying times, you'll also have the opportunity to experiment with the technique on an item you already have at home or a thrifted find you'd love to give new life.

Bring along a vase, candle votive, small tray, picture frame, pot, decorative object — or get creative with something completely unexpected! Wood, ceramic and glass surfaces work especially well. We recommend avoiding plastic or highly porous unfinished surfaces, as these may require additional preparation before decoupaging.

Bringing a second piece is completely optional. Your trinket dish and everything needed to complete the main project are included with your ticket.

If your second project isn't finished by the end of the evening, no problem. You'll be able to take home the decorative papers and finishing materials you need to continue creating.

You'll also receive your own gold paint marker to take home, allowing you to add your final metallic details once your piece has fully dried — and giving you another tool to use for future projects.

No previous crafting or decoupage experience is needed.

About Studio Tuesdays

Studio Tuesdays is a weekly creative night hosted by Dots of Love Canada at Createful Spaces, in the heart of Winnipeg's Exchange District.

Each week features a different hands-on project designed to give you a chance to slow down, try something new, and spend an evening creating. No previous art or crafting experience is needed — you'll be guided through the project step by step, with plenty of room to add your own creative touch.

Your Host

Studio Tuesdays is led by Colleen Havrilenko, artist and creative educator behind Dots of Love Canada. Colleen has been teaching creative workshops throughout Manitoba for years, welcoming both complete beginners and experienced makers into approachable, encouraging creative experiences.
